The next meet up in our fabulous series is going to focus on prepping your hair for the Fall season!

We’ll had some amazing hand-made product samples here, including Coco HoneyMilk conditioner and a special Chocolate Clarifying Clay mask to keep your curls hydrated.

The benefits of coconut in your hair routine:

Coconut Milk

      • nourishes the hair
      • beneficial for hair growth, including the bald spots
      • natural hair detangler
      • natural hair conditioner

Coconut Oil

    • stimulates hair growth getting deep into its follicles.
    • promotes the scalp health fighting against dandruff.moisturizes dry hair.
    • adds luster, shine and softness to the hair.
    • prevents hair breakage and split ends, contributing to hair length.
    • slows down hair loss & reduced shedding.

MAKE YOUR OWN
Coco Honey Milk

a pre-poo hair mask that adds protein, moisture, and shine.

    Here is how you make your own:

  1. Mix the following ingredients:
    • 1 can of coconut milk
    • 4 tbsp of olive oil
    • 4 tbsp of honey
  2. Pour the mix on dry unwashed hair.
  3. Cover hair with a plastic cap.
  4. Let the mixture sit on hair for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Rinse out the mixture with lukewarm water.
  6. Cowash/Shampoo hair as normal.

 

HONEY

The benefits of honey in your hair routine:

Organic Honey

      • is an emollient, a natural softener
      • is a natural antioxidant, keeps scalp healthy and stimulates hair growth
      • is a humectant, prevents the loss of moisture from scalp & hair
      • also high sugar content, helps to retain moisture
      • antibacterial and antiseptic qualities, keeps scalp clean and bacteria-free
      • also reduces dandruff and itchiness on the scalp
      • makes curls shiny

Manuka Honey

    • to prevent split ends
    • to avoid hair loss and regrow thinning hair
    • to prevent dry scalp and remove build up
    • to fight frizz and give your hair shine

MAKE YOUR OWN
Sweet Healing Balm

a moisturizing balm to help hydrate your curls and tame the frizz.

  1. Mix the following ingredients:
    • 15g beeswax
    • 1g carnauba wax
    • 10g cocoa butter
    • 5g shea butter
    • 20ml almond oil
    • 5ml hemp oil
    • 10ml manuka honey
    • 8 drops citrus essential oil
    • Double boiler
    • Metal spoon
    • Small glass jug
    • container for the balm
    • Digital kitchen scale (essential for weighing ingredients)
    • Milk frother
  2. Melt the beeswax, carnauba wax, cocoa butter & shea butter in the double boiler along with the almond oil.
  3. Add hemp oil and honey and stir until liquid. The recipe notes that as honey is not soluble with oil, it won’t totally dissolve with heating and needs to be mixed with the milk frother.
  4. Remove from heat, add essential oils, and blend with the frother while the mixture cools but still pourable.
  5. Pour into container and leave untouched to set.

 

ALOE VERA

The benefits of aloe vera in your hair routine:

Aloe Vera Juice

      • relieves scalp itching
      • reduces scalp redness & inflammation
      • adds strength & luster to hair
      • pH balancing
      • promotes hair growth
      • heals scalps affected by psoriasis & seborrhea
      • easily penetrates hair & scalp
      • anti-fungal properties alleviate dandruff
      • helps hair retain water & moisture

Aloe Vera Jelly

    • very soothing effect on the scalp
    • locks moisture in hair
    • works as barricade between hair and environment

MAKE YOUR OWN
Aloe Honey Rose Mask

an aloe vera mask for glowing skin.

Here is how you make your own:

  1. Mix the following ingredients:
    • Aloe vera.
    • Turmeric.
    • Honey.
    • Milk.
    • Rose water.
  2. Make a paste with a pinch of turmeric,1 teaspoon of Honey, 1 teaspoon of milk and few drops of rose water.
  3. Add the aloe vera gel to the paste and mix it well.If you have cut the gel into cubes, you will need to blend the whole mixture to form the paste.
  4. Apply the paste on to the face and neck evenly for about 20 minutes.
  5. Then wash if off with Luke warm or cold water and pat dry with a clean towel to get glowing skin.

 

CLAY

The benefits of clay in your hair routine:

Aztec Bentonite Clay

      • a nourishing agent for almost all hair types
      • ability to absorb and remove toxins, heavy metals, impurities, and chemicals
      • used to clarify and cleanse hair
      • removes impurities and dirt leaving hair pure, clear and with natural oils
      • leaves hair soft and supple
      • ability to calm scalp conditions such as eczema
      • hair moisturizer and conditioner

Moroccan Rhassoul Clay

    • hair shine restoration
    • as a hair shampoo:
      • enhances the hair texture and volume
      • softens the hair and eliminates dandruff

MAKE YOUR OWN
Chocolate Clarifying Clay Mask

a clarifying mask that hydrates and enhances curls.

      Here is how you make your own:

    1. Mix the following ingredients:
      • 1/2 cup bentonite clay
      • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
      • 1/4 cup coconut oil
      • 1/4 cup aloe vera juice
      • 2 tbsp raw or organic honey
      • 3-5 drops tea tree or peppermint oil
      • 1 cup (or more as needed) semi-boiling water

TIP: Use PLASTIC to mix the clay with other ingredients as metal decreases it’s potency!

  1. Mix the dry ingredients and wet ingredients in separate bowls.
  2. Combine all ingredients by folding the wet into the dry until smooth.
  3. Apply mixture to freshly washed & conditioned damp hair.
  4. Allow mixture to dry on hair for 20 minutes to an hour.
  5. Thoroughly rinse out mixture and apply your leave-in conditioner, then style as usual.

A dozen Frizzettes came together and shared, learned and laughed. Tips and methods were discussed, questions were asked, and hilarious hair stories were shared. shutthefrizzup™ created an environment where curly haired women (and non curly hair) could discuss issues, methods they’ve heard about but haven’t tried, … etc. We believe that the conversation should be taken offline every once in a while and should become a tête-à-tête. What this intimate environment creates is an educational safe space to connect and feel comfortable about your hair knowing that you aren’t alone.   • make sure you cut and take care of your split ends
  • use this mix in a spray bottle to moisturize your hair daily:
    • vegetable glycerin
    • a leave-in condish
    • and distilled water(as sometimes your local water can be harsh and full of minerals)
